Heavy sentences for gang that terrorised the Algarve

handcuffsThe leader of the violent gang which spread terror across the Algarve in the summer of 2012 was sentenced to the maximum sentence of 25 years in prison.

The other defendants, a man and a woman, were sentenced to 13 and nine years in prison respectively.

 

The gang had committed more than three dozen crimes including homicide, attempted homicide, aggravated kidnap, aggravated robbery, and arson.

One of the six victims was a farmer who was beaten to death. In another case, a woman was kidnapped, beaten about the head with a rock and the area around her was set fire to.
