Spaniards to star in their own films

spainriot2Spanish people are being encouraged to take to the screen by submitting a short video of their daily lives.

The routine activities of Spaniards in the country and abroad will be assembled into a documentary.

The initiative was inspired by Life in a Day compiled by Ridley Scott which focussed on video snapshots of people’s lives on one day of the year, namely 24 July 2010.

The Spanish version, Spain in a Day, is set for 24 October this year

"It is a movie that is going to be made from the fragments of the lives of everyone," film director Isabel Coixet said. "Births, weddings, baptisms - moments of loneliness, moments of happiness. After sex, before sex, sex - well, I don't know, that, too.

"We are trying to collect the lives of all Spaniards in a way that is real, authentic, entertaining, dramatic. But above all, it has to be true."

Videos of up to 15 minutes have been requested by a deadline of 15 November after which the film will be compiled. It is scheduled for the San Sebastian film festival as well movie houses and live broadcast.

The Life in a Day project was sent 80,000 videos totalling 4,500 hours of footage from people in 192 countries. The format has been copied in the UK, Japan and Italy.
