The municipality of Aljezur will be awarded for the third consecutive year the green flag for ‘City ECOXXI.’
This award scheme is part of an initiative promoted by the European Blue Flag Association which aims to identify and recognise good sustainability practices developed in municipalities.
The participating municipalities undergo assessment of their services which analyses environmental education, civil society, employment, institutions, nature conservation, air, water, energy, waste, mobility, noise, agriculture, tourism and regional planning.
"The receipt of this award means that Aljezur got more than a 50% score in 21 categories, divided into numerous sub-categories, which were evaluated by specialised jury of representatives from various public sector and private organisations," according to Aljezur’s council statement.
