TV searching for expat hotelier in the Algarve

ALEXPIOZZIA well-known TV programme is looking for an expat in charge of a struggling B&B either in Portugal or Spain.

Channel 5’s Hotel Inspector series are hoping to find someone to help make their accommodation business more successful.

Alex Polizzi, who heads up the show, brings years of experience in the hospitality industry.

According to the producer, Alex Hanks, Polizzi – a member of the Forte hotel dynasty - is looking for one, or possibly two venues, run by Britons in the Algarve or southern Spain to feature on the series.

“It doesn’t necessarily have to be somewhere that’s getting bad reviews. It could be about helping the business reach its full potential. One of the things we’re looking at this year is hotels in the process of opening up,” she said.

“I think people often have this romantic vision of starting a business but the reality is that it can be quite hard work.”

The Hotel Inspector is broadcast to more than 40 countries and regularly has up to two million people watching it.

Miss Hanks said filming will start in the next month or two, with the series broadcast in the UK in summer 2016.

Last year one episode focussed on the boutique Hotel La Casa in Torrox, near Málaga, run by sisters Karen Atkinson and Sarah Melton.

With Polizzi’s help, and the programme’s reach, bookings raced ahead.

Ms Atkinson encouraged other expats interested in taking part in the series to do so.

“It was a pleasure to work with such a fantastic film crew and have the opportunity to glean advice from the legendary Alex Polizzi,” she said.

“It has worked very much in our favour and we would not hesitate to do it again.”
