The Captain of a Ryanair flight called for an emergency landing at Faro Airport on Sunday morning due to unspecified ‘technical issues’ on-board.
The flight, from the Spanish island of Lanzarote to Shannon airport in Ireland, touched down at Faro airport at around 9:30 and came to a halt without incident.
Faro airport’s emergency services were on full alert and all other flights scheduled for take-off and landing temporarily were put on hold.
The Boeing 737 jettisoned most of its fuel before landing as a standard safety measure.

These are serious technical issues for us ... an engine fire or part of a wing falling off is just an inconvenience. If particularly relevant to safe flight - it would be classified as a distraction.
