Memmingen is the latest destination in Germany for passengers travelling on Ryanair.
The airport is located about 3.8 km from the centre of Memmingen and 110 km from the centre of Munich.
It serves Memmingen and the Allgäu area and provides a low-cost alternative to Munich Airport and sometimes is referred to as 'Munich-West' - a trick that for once Ryanair is not using.
Flights will operate twice a week, and are integrated with Ryanair’s winter schedule which now covers 14 destinations in a bid to ‘counter the effects of seasonality.’
Barbara Casanova, Sales and Marketing Executive of Ryanair, commented that "Ryanair is delighted to open this first flight to Memmingem from Faro airport, part of our expanded winter schedule for 2015.
"We are delighted with the continued growth of Ryanair in Faro since our first flight in 2003 and we expect to continue to see high levels of growth, stimulated by our unbeatable formula of low prices and excellent customer service.”
The director of Faro airport, Alberto Mota Borges, said he was happy with the new route, "as well as increased operations on several routes in Europe, in particular Dublin, London Stansted and Eindhoven, this greatly contributes to mitigating the effect of seasonality in the Algarve region which is beautiful all year, and now even more people will know it."
Memmigen is the smallest of the three commercial airports in Bavaria after Munich and Nuremberg and is at the highest altitude of any commercial airport in Germany.
