After the US, France is the second most popular country destination for Airbnb users.
Its capital, Paris, is the city most visited of any in the world for Airbnb bookings.
Nearly 4 million travellers booked accommodation through Airbnb from September 2014 through August 2015.
Airbnb’s director for France claimed this contributed €2.4 billion to the country’s economy – the figure includes associated spending such as meals and sightseeing.
The 3.9 million tourists were said to have created €218 million in revenue for the property owners.
"When you consider that 83 million people visited France this year, and that 100 million are expected annually by 2010, Airbnb is contributing to the growth of this figure," said director Nicolas Ferrary.
There are 200,000 properties for rent on Airbnb in France. Of these 60,000 are in the greater Paris area. Listings in Paris have shot up dramatically in the last few years – in 2012 there were but 4,000.
