Lagoa farmer found with head smashed in

pspA farmer has been found with his head smashed in on the flat land between Lagoa and Sesmarias in the Algarve.

The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the violent death on common grazing land at Canadá, 2 kilometres south of Lagoa, and the immediate area has been sealed off all day while a forsenic team logged the site and looked for clues.

The alert was received by emergency services at 10:38 this morning after a local spotted the corpse of Fernando Vincente.

The 65-year-old man has severe injuries to his head. A rock covered in blood lay nearby as did some heavy piping.

Vicente was 65-years-old and ran a herd of cows. He was praised by neighbours as a "good and hardworking person" and none could suggest the remotest reason why he should have been killed, especially in such an horrific manner.

It is not yet known what the motive was for the crime, nor have suspects been identified.

CM refers to Vicente as having two brothers, one of whom committed suicide some years ago.

The other told police that he had last spoken to his brother on Saturday night, when Vicente was alleged to have told him that “there was someone on the land”.
