Branson returns to Majorca

bransonmallorcaSir Richard Branson has said that he is buying back a 400-acre estate on the island 13 years after he sold it.

The sale of the Son Bunyola estate was prompted by a row over planning permission with the local council. Former merchant banker Christian Hore purchased it in 2003.

The estate centres around a farmhouse which dates back to the 1800s which had been the focus of a vineyard and olive oil farm with a series of small villas having been added later.

It encompasses mountains and farmlands before dipping to its three miles of coastline and direct access to the beach.

It is anticipated that Sir Richard will now try to revive plans to convert the estate into a five-star eco-resort.

Local estate agents are thought to be excited about the purchase, which is thought to have cost some £11 million.

His private island, Necker, in the Caribbean – which rents for £30,000 a week - may be his best known property, but far from his only one. He also owns a South African game reserve, a kasbah in the Moroccan desert, a Swiss ski chalet in Verbier and a tented safari camp in Kenya’s Maasai Mara.
