Paddle boarder rescued by Maritime Police

supThe Vila Real de Santo António Maritime Police rescued a 34-year-old Spanish ‘stand-up paddle boarder’ off Praia Verde beach on Saturday.

A distress alert that a woman was in trouble was received by the local Maritime Police, via the Maritime Operations Centre, on Saturday at 17:00 and officers set off by boat to rescue her.

The woman "was exhausted and very cold" said the Police. She was taken on board and dropped off at Praia Verde beach, Castro Marim, where a team of INEM para-medics treated her.

Over in Praia da Rocha, news that Rocha beach is to host the regional surfing championship has been welcomed by local traders.

Rocha beach will see the second stage of the Southern Surfing Regional Circuit 2016 on April 2nd and 3rd and is being organised by the Portimão Marina Yacht Club-Playsurf, with the technical support of the Portuguese Surfing Federation.

This is a qualifier for the National Surf Championship 2016 with official categories for under-12s, under-14s, under 16s and under 18s.
