A fishing float was found today near the beach of Meia Praia in Lagos and has been identified as coming from the Olhão fishing boat missing since Monday.
Today’s swell and high winds prevented any searches by sea, but the authorities patrolled the coastline supported by vehicles where possible in an attempt to recover what certainly now will be the corpses of the two missing fishermen.
The search again was halted at sunset and will resume on Thursday morning, but only by land as the weather forecast is for continuing high waves and stiff winds.
This morning’s search stretched from Olhão to Albufeira, covering approximately 40 kilometres, but after the float was found in the afternoon the authorities decided to extend tomorrow’s search to the whole south coast from Vila Real de Santo António and Sagres.
Two Olhão fishermen and their fishing boat have been missing since Monday afternoon, but searches have been hampered by bad weather and high seas.
The men were last seen on Monday morning, around 07.00 between the islands of Faro and Deserta.
