Scientists have identified the coldest spot on Earth.
Using satellite technology, the measurement of minus 93.2 Celsius (-135.8F) was found to be in the heart of Antarctica.
The record dates from 10 August 2010, the dark winter months.
The previous record low, also in Antarctica, was minus 89.2C. This occurred at the Russian Vostok base on 21 July 1983.
The new low is a good 50 degrees colder than temperatures in Alaska or Siberia, and about 30 degrees colder than the summit of Greenland.
Meanwhile, the hottest recorded spot, found by satellite sensor, is Dasht-e Lut salt desert in southeast Iran, where it reached 70.7C in 2005.
