Turismo de Portugal will send €5.9 million to Algarve Tourism for it to spend in 2014, running its services and promotional campaigns in isolation from any overall promotion of Portugal as a marketable brand.
A happy tourism boss Desiderio Silva will to continue to promote the Algarve’s own brand in the domestic and international markets where hopefully any messages he comes up with for the Algarve will not conflict with Turismo de Portugal’s remit of promoting the country as a whole.
"Tourism in the Algarve has a similar budget next year to this year, close to €5.9 million," according to Desiderio Silva, Algarve Tourism boss, after the approval of his plan and budget accounts for 2014.
Silva said the money will be used for "strongly promoting the Algarve in the domestic market and in the Spanish market, continuing a strategy that began in 2013."
Algarve Tourism already has committed to a second roadshow into Spain and northern Portugal where tour operators were entertained in style in the expectation that they later would send customers to the Algarve.
