The Troika left Portugal in June 2014, but despite high hopes that this would herald an end to wage capping, a year later Portuguese workers were earning the same as they did two years before.
in the year to April last year, workers' base salary was €950, virtually the same as recorded in April 2012, despite the end of civil service salary reductions.
Women continue to earn less than men but their base salary has risen €10 to €849 per month. Wages for men have dropped €2 to €1,035 per month. These figures are for the year to last April so do not take into account the recent Socialist government rise in the minimum wage.
21.4% of the country's workers earn the national minimum wage of €530 per month, figures for hotel and restaurant sector workers are higher at 29.9%.
The household savings fell to historic lows last year. The 4.2% savings rate was the lowest since at least 1999, the first year for which there are records.
