beachalmograveFirefighters were successful in rescuing a stranded German tourist near Monte Clérigo beach, Aljezur, who was stuck on the cliff with the tide rising.

The tourist was picking up pebbles at an isolated beach next to Monte Clérigo and tried to climb to safety as the incoming tide cut her off.

The 65-year-old German was rescued by a Firefighting team from Aljezur with support from the Maritime Police.

The Lagos port commander, Pedro Carvalho Pinto, who coordinated the operation said the alert was given at 16:55. "The woman was trying to climb the rock but failed and was stuck. The Maritime Police immediately went to the site, and the Aljezur bombeiros rescued the victim.

“The tourist had gone for a walk on Calhauzinhos beach and did not realize the tide was coming in.

“She got cut off and tried to climb the cliff, but without success. When the rescue teams arrived at the scene, the woman was in danger because the sea water had already reached her.

The woman was rescued, uninjured but "very scared" according to the Pinto. She was evaluated and assisted on site but did not require medical treatment.
“She said that she had gone to collect pebbles but had become distracted,” according to the bold commander.
