A message of hope from Portugal’s first lady

belemMaria Cavaco Silva, the wife of Portugal's Head of State, today said that Portugal will survive despite its difficulties.

“With plenty of sacrifice and hope, the Portuguese will resolve the crisis,” according to Portugal’s first lady Maria Cavaco Silva who graciously was opening the grounds of her husband’s taxpayer funded official residence.

“Portugal will survive again, despite large, serious difficulties. My grandmother used to say that hope is the last thing to die. We can not let hope die because, of course, this not the first time we have overcome major, serious difficulties. We have always survived, we will survive again," said Mrs President addressing curious visitors to the Palace of Belém gardens.

"I want to give everyone a message of great hope," she concluded.

From this Saturday until January 5th, 2014, the grounds of the official residence of the Head of State will be open to the public from 17.00 to 22.00 hours. Entry costs a very reasonable €1.50 as the gates open as the sun goes down on a grateful nation. The money collected will be given to charity.

Didn't know she could talk but it is nice to send a "hope" message that her people can eat. Yes, X-mas is coming. It would be much better and more elegant if she gives something to charity herself but probably the couple is saving money to assure their "reduced" pension. ONE EURO AND FIFTY cents ? It will be packed. I believe that the Portuguese are still able to give this amount directly to someone that needs it.
