Low inflation in Portugal

algarveshoppingInflation in the eurozone was up by 0.9% in November. In October it had been 0.7%.

In November of last year, inflation was running at 2.2% on average in the region.

Portugal’s rate is again low at 0.1%. Inflation has hovered around this rate for the last six months.

This is the fourth lowest of all 17 eurozone states.

The EU country with the highest inflation was Germany with 1.6% in November.

Highest inflation throughout all 28 EU nations was found in the UK where the rate for November was 2.1%, which was nevertheless at its lowest level in four years. This is likely to rise in December, however, due to increases in energy costs.

For the eurozone, one element which caused inflation to rise was electricity costs. Factors depressing inflation were petrol, telecommunications, and heating oil.
