Complaints received by consumer organisation DECO relating to individuals' tax affairs have nearly doubled in the past year.
DECO now is receiving an average of 150 complaints a day from those who suspect errors have been made by Finanças on their income tax returns,
"We encourage taxpayers to look with twenty pairs of eyes at their income tax assessments," said the organisation.
DECO has launched an appeal to the tax authority to compensate those affected.
Given the level of errors detected by DECO’s lawyers, the association today went public and released a statement to argue that the tax authorities are making errors in people’s tax returns and have sent letters to parliamentary groups and to the Ministry of Finance to claim compensation for taxpayers that have been forced to overpay.
