A Dutch resident who has lived in the Tavira area for many of her 68 years died on Saturday when her vehicle turned over on a quiet country lane.
The accident near their house at Corte Peso, Santa Catarina de Fonte do Bispo, involved her husband as passenger who suffered only minor injuries.
The couple, named as Dardy and Anthonia Hamburger, were on their way after lunch to have a coffee in a nearby café, as they often did, when the accident happened.
But just before 14:00hrs the Toyota Starlet, for reasons yet to be determined, mounted a bank and rolled over.
Anthonia Hamburger was crushed by the vehicle and declared dead at the scene by emergency services staff. Her injured husband had managed to call the emergency services on 112 and later was taken to Faro Hospital for a check up.
The Dutch couple have lived in the Algarve for over 20 years.
