A new Centro de Bem Estar Animal de Albufeira (Center for Wellness for Albufeira’s Animals) was the project most voted for by the public in the Council’s ‘public can vote for projects scheme.’
The council already has signed the contract for the building work and the new centre will be completed "before the end of the year."
The contract for the building at the council’s existing Vale de Pedras kennel site was awarded directly to a contractor who will be billing €56,000 for the work.
"The plan will consist of expanding the capacity of the animal housing collection facilities at the current municipal site by building a small additional structure with an area of 110m2," the Council reported.
The new centre will provide a space in the cattery area for receiving and washing animals, a veterinary care room, a surgery room, changing rooms for staff, toilets, storage areas and four quarantine sections.
In the existing center two new isolation cells and four kennels for small dogs will be built.
The center will also have a space for animal training between the current center and the new one.
