Cold front to bring relief from 40°C + Algarve temperatures

6252To the relief of many Algarve residents, the current blistering temperature are set to drop on Wednesday as a cold front will bring a drop of 10°C across the region.

Weather expert Sandra Correia commented, "Today and for Tuesday we have issued hot weather warnings at level ‘orange’ for some districts, mainly inland in the north and the centre of Portugal and for almost the entire southern region where the maximum temperature will be reaching between 40°C and 43°C in some of these regions."

The meteorologist from Portugal’s weather service said the current blast of hot air is coming from Africa but this will change with a cold front arriving on Wednesday. This will reduce temperatures "in the order of ten degrees" and will maintain these levels until the end of the week.

According to Sandra Correia it is not over yet as after the cold front, locals can expect rises this weekend but nowhere near the current sweltering levels.

The current hot period will make for an uncomfortable night for those without air-conditioning with temperatures staying well into the 20s.

The Algarve’s population can be comforted that a poor night’s sleep due to the heat is nothing compared to the sticky fate in store for the good burgers of Portalegre in the Alentejo where the temperature won’t drop much below 30 all night long.
