Algarve cleans up at World Travel Awards

vilavitaThe 2016 World Travel Awards, the tourism ‘Oscars,’ took place in Sardinia on September 4th with many Portuguese businesses accepting awards in 23 categories.

The Algarve now is the holder of the accolade for Europe’s Best Beach Resort, and Madeira is Best Island Destination.

The online voting is made by a worldwide audience of thousands of industry travel and tourism professionals.

The president of the Algarve Tourism Board, Desidério Silva, commented, "At a time when all indicators anticipate the best year ever for Algarve tourism, receiving the distinction of Best European Beach Destination for the fourth time and for the second consecutive year is good for the country and for the Algarve and highlights the excellent work by hoteliers, municipalities and organisations in the region."

The Algarve’s hotels did well too, winning eight awards including, the Best Beach Resort in Europe (Hotel Quinta do Lago), the Best Boutique Hotel in Europe (Vila Joya), the best Family Resort in Europe (Pine Cliffs Resort), the best Hotel Villas in Europe (Private Villas at Vila Vita Parc), the best Resort and Luxury Spa in Europe (Conrad Algarve), the best MICE Hotel in Europe (EPIC SANA Algarve), Best New Resort in Europe (Pine Cliffs Ocean Suites) and the Most Romantic Resort in Europe (Monte Santo Resort).

It did not stop there as the region’s hotels received awards for the Best Family Resort in Portugal (Hotel Quinta do Lago), Best Hotel Suite in Portugal (Roof Garden Suite Conrad Algarve), Best Resort in Portugal (Hilton Vilamoura Cascades Golf Resort & Spa) and Best Villa Resort in Portugal (Dunas Douradas Beach Club).

The Grand Finale of the World Travel Awards will be held in December at a ceremony in the Maldives.
