A 19-year-old on a bicycle has been hit and killed by a train on the Algarve's regional railway line today at around 1pm.
The incident occurred at a level crossing just to the west of Faro where, according to witnesses, the barriers were down but the man went around them in order to cycle across the track.
Part of the regional railway service was halted as emergency services attended the scene.
Last week's incident (18th September) in Olhão indeed seems likely to have been a suicide when a man threw himself under a train as it approached the station.

The guard at the pedestrian crossing tried to grab the man who slipped from his grasp and was killed instantly.
On September 2nd, a young woman was killed as she walked along a section of track near Portimão
The victim, in her 20s, had no identification and was walking along the railway line "talking on her phone, or listening to music," according to the train driver.
