A six man team from Scotland Yard arrived on Wednesday night and this morning met with the Judicial Police in Faro as part of the Madeleine McCann enquiry.
The British police have been asked not to brief journalists as to the reason for their visit which has ensured headline news across the media, the unfounded suspicion being that a dig is being organised in several sites in the Praia da Luz area in a search for a body although this has not been confirmed by any reliable source.
Among the requests from Scotland Yard in three rogatory letters sent to the Attorney General's Office, and none yet replied to, is one asking for permission to interview at least eight witnesses who are ‘deemed relevant’ to the British enquiry, but seemingly not to the Portuguese authorities.
