The Portuguese public now has the opportunity to watch a programme about the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, broadcast in an attempt to jog people’s memories.
The CMTV (channel 8 on Meo) will broadcast on Sunday night at 22.55 the special programme which aims to reconstruct events on the night of May 3rd 2007, the last time Madeleine was known to be alive in Praia da Luz, Lagos.
The programme was shot at the Ocean Club resort in Luz where the McCann family was staying on holiday, and lasts eight minutes during which time viewers can follow what may have happened on the night when the girl, then aged three, disappeared from the room where she slept with two twin brothers.
The reconstruction involved 10 actors and was made in three locations. It is the result of two weeks work and includes unseen footage taken inside the Ocean Club apartment .It is the first time that the scene of the crime has been seen on Portuguese TV.
The ‘Especial Maddie' programme brings together key moments of the original investigation which recently has been reopened due to alleged new evidence supplied to the Portuguese judiciary.
A later debate, with professionals who have followed the case closely, includes the highly controversial figure of Gonçalo Amaral, the PJ inspector responsible for the early investigation, and Rui Pereira who then was Minister of the Interior. The debate will include input from criminal psychologist Maria Sameiro, and professor Moita Flores a former PJ inspector.
