Repsol-Partex Algarve drilling contract deposit close to being lost

REPSOLPortugal’s ‘National Entity for the Fuel Market’, or ENMC formally has proposed to the Government that the deposit lodged by the Partex-Repsol oil exploration consortium should be forfeit due to the failure of the companies to comply with their work plan as detailed in the contract.

The oil exploration contracts, which the last government signed with the Repsol-Partex consortium, stated that the first offshore well in the Algarve exploration area would be drilled in 2016.

Portugal is losing its natural forests at an alarming rate

corkoakEcology and nature association, Quercus, has highlighted a government statement confirming that showing that Portugal is the only country in the EU that has lost forest area in each of the last 15 years.

Quercus refers to a statement from the Minister of Agriculture, Luís Capoulas dos Santos, saying that Portugal has lost about 150,000 hectares in the last 15 years, but Quercus claims other international organisations report Portugal's losses as greater.

Duarte Lima declared insolvent, owing €31.7 million

The refusal of Duarte Lima's creditors this April to allow him flexibility has led to his insolvency, owing €31.7 million to a variety of creditors including State-owned Novo Banco and Parvalorem.

GNR reports only one road death over a tranquil Christmas break

gnrstopThe GNR’s Operation Natal Tranquilo registered 750 accidents and one fatality. The number of accidents was 126 more than the same four days last year but there were six fewer deaths.

Operation Natal Tranquilo took place between December 23rd and 26th with the GNR reporting that eight people were seriously injured, 12 fewer than last year and 240 suffered minor injuries, down 44.

Olhão’s former mayor denies corruption accusation

Leal says he has "a clear conscience" and that “no one corrupted me while I was president,” between 1993 and 2013, the latter claim causing much hilarity among local residents.
