Cristas takes over the CDS-PP reins from a tearful Paulo Portas

Cristas, the former coalition Minister for Agriculture, is the first woman to run the party and is the seventh leader since the CDS - Partido Popular was founded on 19th July, 1974 in the aftermath of the Carnation Revolution.

Portugal now has too many hotels

Refugees help Italian city spruce up

leavesAsylum seekers are being asked to help clean the streets and parks of Italy’s northern city of Turin.

The scheme was launched by the city’s waste authority and city council and will let refugees waiting for their asylum claims to be processed the chance to work a six-hour shift each Saturday to empty bins, pick up litter and sweep leaves.

Spanish woman in Faro airport cocaine bust

cocaineA 46-year-old Spanish woman was stopped and arrested at Faro airport yesterday for carrying over two kilos of cocaine.

The woman was detained by the Judicial Police on suspicion of drug trafficking and has been remanded in custody.
