Democracy? Where?

DEMOCRACY? WHERE?When I was a child, I learned that in democracy you talk or write to candidates to let them know what is key for your family or group, and find out their opinions on other key issues. Also, that each one will visit the groups who supported him, to exchange ideas about vital coming issues.

On June 10th the major party chosen by Europeans, NABO, N-ulls, A-bstentions, B-lancs, O-ther(less than 0,5%) got no seats at all at the European Parliament. As I understand, this parliament will only talk (parli) as it has almost zero power. The figures are astonishing, 52% for all electors in the EU chose NABO. In some countries, such as Croatia 80%, Bulgaria 69% and here in Portugal, 65,5%.

Most amazing, the media in the EU did not write about these figures, I had to research. And politicians where so proud of their victory. None mentioned that half of all electors don´t trust them.

This seldom seen scenery reminds of what happened 100 years ago, when the financial chaos led to unemployment, mistrust to all governments and the raise of the extreme-right, which brought Hitler and then a 2nd World War.

History repeat itself; it seems highly probably that because of higher inflation, higher costs with arms, lack of grains, high insurance fees, less public health, the purchase power in the EU will fall. Portuguese exports will fall, mainly in garments, footwear, mechanical parts, real estate for foreigners. Unemployment will raise. All that on top of politicians who do not represent most voters, dissatisfaction with bureaucracy, may give place to a huge increase in the extreme-right, which will probably ask us, “are you happy, continue to vote for them; if you wish for a change vote for us.”

How to change this trend? General strikes, blocking roads, a new April 25th. I don´t know, I know we must change!
