FC Copenhagen based their team at the Amendoeira Golf Resort during the tournament and the excellent training facilities were put to full use between matches.
FC Copenhagen participated in the 2014 Atlantic Cup in the Algarve, Portugal which ran between 4th and 13th February 2014. During the tournament, the team stayed and trained at the Amendoeira Golf Resort near the town of Silves.
FC Copenhagan plays in the Danish Superliga and is one of the most successful teams in the country with 10 championship titles to their name. This was the first time they had participated in the Atlantic Cup and their first visit to Amendoeira Golf Resort.
The resort offers very private training facilities at its onsite Amendoeira Sports Club with a full size natural grass pitch and gymnasium, which the team had exclusive use of during their stay. A dedicated organizer was also assigned to them and Head Coach, Stale Solbakken was pleased with the facilities and service provided, concluding that all-in-all, the team’s stay was a positive one.
The Atlantic Cup, which is always held in the Algarve, is now in its fourth year and is starting to gain a reputation as a valuable pre-season winter tournament. In addition to FC Copenhagen, the tournament line-up included FC Slovan Liberec from the Czech Republic, Breidablik UBK from Iceland and FC Spartak Moscow from Russia.
FC Copenhagen played against the Czech team on 7th February and won convincingly 4:0. Three days later, they met the Icelandic team, and defeated them comfortably 2:0. Their final confrontation was on the 13th February against FC Spartak Moscow and they rose to overall victory with a final score of 5:0.
The football players stayed in spacious two bedroom apartments with three or four people sharing two twin rooms, served by 2 separate bathrooms. The management team shared three bedroom villas which were close to the players’ accommodation.
The team ate their nutritious meals at the impressive Amendoeira Clubhouse which overlooks the resort’s two golf courses: the Oceânico Faldo Course and the Oceânico O’Connor Junior.
Amendoeira Golf Resort has hosted a number of training camps for sports teams, including with Blackburn Rovers, Blackpool FC, Kabuscorp SC, NEC Nijmegen and Aston Villa FC.
Professional warm weather training packages are available for football, Gaelic football and hurling and include transfers, accommodation, training and meals. Luxury accommodation is provided in spacious two bedroom apartments with communal pools or in three & four bedroom villas with private pools. Sportsmen meals are served at the impressive clubhouse and the team is welcome to use the other leisure facilities including two 5-a-side football pitches, six tennis courts, a 1km jogging path and a games room.
The Amendoeira Golf Resort prepares tailor made training packages for all its sports guests. Off-site excursions and team building activities can also be arranged to suit.
