Tavira bids farewell to the Sailing World

  2014 World Youth Sailing ISAFThe  2014 World Youth Sailing ISAF officially came to an end on Friday. The 44th Edition ended with the Closing Ceremony, held in Friday in the city of Tavira was filled with athletes from 67 countries attending the event, but also many tourists and residents, delighted with a party full of joy and youth .

It was time to reward the winners,  with emphasis on the new world champions in eight classes participating in a ceremony that was attended by Augusto Baganha, president of the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth (IPDJ), the vice president of International Sailing Federation (ISAF), Nazli Imre and the Director General of Sports of Malaysia, Dato Embong, representing the host of the next edition of the ISAF Youth World country.

Augusto Baganha took the stage and on behalf of the Government of Portugal, thanked the organizing committee and the executive Tavira for the effort expended in performing the test.
The President of IPDJ stressed the importance of partnership with the Portuguese Sailing Federation, "in order to support and promote events like this," stressing that this is the kind of evidence that best reflects "the beauty of sport and the joy of youth." Praising the young athletes Augusto Baganha wished them "congratulations and all the luck for the future."

The audience applauded all 24 medals, but also the South African duo SL16, voted by athletes as winners of the Bengt Julin Trophy, which is awarded to athletes who excel or entourages of sportsmanship, and respect for colleagues and opponents.

The country of Spain as the winner of the Trophy of Nations was another of the highlights of the night.

At the end of the ceremony, the Vice President of ISAF, Nazli Imre decreed the official closure of the World Youth Sailing and called on stage Augusto Baganha and Malaysian counterpart to do the handover to the next edition, taking place in 2015 in Langkawi, Malaysia.
