Morgado Golf charity day raised €5,800 for the Portimão Fire Service

bombeirosA Golf Tournament promoted by the NAU group at its Morgado golf course raised €5,800 for the local Bombeiros.

In September of this year, the municipalities of Monchique and Portimão were hit by a widespread fire. Herdade do Reguengo, the 970 hectare estate owned by the NAU Hotels & Resorts group includes the Morgado and Álamos golf courses, as well as the Morgado Golf & Country Club, all of which was protected by the tireless efforts of the Volunteer Fire Service of Portimão.

This golf event was an opportunity to thank the commitment of the firefighters. The management of NAU Hotels & Resorts challenged Portuguese and foreign golfers from the Algarve region to participate in a charity tournament where all the money raised went to the Volunteer Fire Service of Portimão.

There was an auction as well which helped swell the amount raised on the day to €5,800 which the fire service will use to acquire specific equipment for special rescues.

For Jorge Papa, director of Morgado Golf, "it is an honour for the entire team of the Morgado golf course, from the management to the staff, to promote this tournament in support of the Volunteer Fire Service of Portimão which we have to thank for not having tired in their efforts in the fight against the fire that devastated this region of Monchique and Portimão and caused so much damage."

Richard Marques, commander of the BV of Portimão, thanked the NAU Hotels & Resorts group for its support, saying that the money “will help to minimise some of the shortages that the corporation is facing, and makes a valuable contribution to the service provided to the community.”

"Even though the group has an active policy of social responsibility, engaging in various social causes, it is not usual to publicise this kind of support," said Mário Ferreira, CEO of NAU Hotels & Resorts. "However, in the case of the Volunteer Fire Service of Portimão we believe that disclosure is important not only because of the importance of this type of support, which may eventually be replicated, but also by the public tribute for the heroic work carried out by these men and women."

As for who won: Gillian Marley in the Ladies category, Paulo Pingo in the Gross and Mário Ferreira the NET classification.
