RCEPI held a fund raising Solidarity Dinner at the local Estoi Poeta Emiliano da Costa School on Saturday 17th March. The cookery students at the school prepared a fantastic 3 course meal which they then served to 64 guests.
First class musical entertainment was provided by internationally renowned Ricardo J Martins a multi instrumentalist musician specializing in the classical Portuguese guitar who has released 2 albums. He continues to live in the Algarve but tours extensively abroad.
At last there was a short break in the much needed rain for the motorcyclists of the ASB to get a day out on their bikes.
John Heffernan organised a lovely ride from Boliqueime over the hills above Salir to Almodovar in the lower Alentejo. It was a bright but somewhat chilly day and a break was taken in Ameixial on the way for a warming coffee. After passing through Almodovar the riders returned south via Sao Marcos where lunch was taken at Restaurante Cruzamento before going their separate ways home.
The foreign residents’ Association afpop, held its 30th Annual General Meeting on Saturday march 24th, at the hotel Jardim do Vau in Portimão.
The meeting was attended by 30 Members, who had the opportunity to hear the results from the previous year and development plans for 2018 and beyond, when the Annual Business Plan was presented after the formal business was completed.
International Women’s Day gave members of Almancil International Rotary Club (AIRC) the perfect opportunity to celebrate with friends and special lady guests with a fund-raising lunch and fashion show sponsored by The Conrad Algarve Hotel and Cotton Lovers Outlet, Almancil.
On March 10 2018, the St. Patrick’s Society held a very successful and enjoyable evening to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in the Pestana Viking Hotel, Armação de Pêra. An added bonus was that on the same day the Ireland Rugby Team won the Six-Nations Championship!
RC Estoi Palace International members returned to the Poet Emiliano da Costa School on Tuesday 28th February to enjoy a lunch prepared and served by the students. Last year members visited the school for lunch and donated 600 euros to purchase an oven to assist the students with their food preparation. This year after another superb 3 course lunch prepared using the new oven, the Club was delighted to donate another 400 euros to purchase a microwave for the students and fund a Study Trip.
The first ride of the this year was a short tour to the pretty village of Querenca for a coffee at the always popular Cafe Roza in the square opposite the church.
After a short break the riders headed north towards Baranco Velho before turning west towards Benafim then passing through some lovely scenery and down the valley to Santa Margarida on the way to Alte. Although it was a bright sunny day with some clear distant views from the hills there was a cold biting wind and everyone was pleased to have the chance to warm up and enjoy lunch at Restaurante O Folclore in Alte.
