The Royal British Legion’s Remembrance Dinner in Lagos was once again a huge success and a sell-out, with people having to be turned away.
The room resounded to the old classic wartime songs, using the karaoke machine specially programmed for the occasion.
More than 50 guests, headed by Sir Owen Gee and his wife Val, attended the dinner at the Fools & Horses Bar where they raised €619.50 for the Poppy Appeal, helping service charities.
RBL Portugal Chairman Jacquie Collins read the welcome and the dedication to the fallen, and bar manager Samantha Squires read the grace.
Sue Howe, the RBL’s Western Algarve organiser, commented: “We owe a big thank you to Eddie Strayton the owner, Samantha and their team, for their support and help in making it an evening to remember."
“It took five people almost three hours to decorate the place appropriately, and it looked wonderful. The food was excellent, there was plenty of it, and everyone had a great evening, so much so that it went on until the early hours of the following morning.”
