Rotary Club Estoi Palace International (RCEPI) proudly hosted its 12th annual Rotary Charity Golf Tournament on August 30th, at the prestigious Monte Rei Golf and Country Club.
It was a warm, sunny day as golfers teed off early on the challenging course, determined to make the most of the event. By the end of the day, participants returned from the greens tired but smiling, ready to enjoy a well-deserved lunch followed by the prize-giving ceremony.
Reflecting on the event, RCEPI organizer Christine Fay expressed her gratitude, saying: "Once again, our golfers have shown incredible support for our charitable causes. It was truly heartwarming to see both familiar faces and new participants joining us. My Rotary colleagues, along with the outstanding team at Monte Rei, all played a part in making this event a success."
During the awards ceremony, top performers were recognized. In the men's category, Ken Needham took 1st place with 41 points. Close behind, Cristophe Balland secured 2nd place with 36 points (winning on a better back 9), while Oliver Smith came in 3rd place, also with 36 points. In the ladies' category, Varaena Kondes claimed 1st place with 40 points, followed by Catherine Bouquaheux in 2nd with 38 points. Maggie Lowe finished in 3rd place with 37 points, winning on a better back 6. The “Nearest the Pin” awards went to Steven Friedenberg for the men and Maria Wille for the ladies.
This year’s tournament successfully raised over €8000, which will be used to support local charities, with a portion specifically dedicated to the Bombeiros of São Brás de Alportel. The event's success was made possible by the generous support of sponsors, including Monte Rei Golf and Country Club, Mestre Raposa (doors and windows), Algarve One Insurance (underwriting & insurance management), Conrad Algarve, Quinta Do Largo, Porsche Faro, About Wine (Faro), Conserveira do Arade Lda, Pestana Hotels, Jacklocks (locksmiths), and Castro Marim Golfe and Country Club. Additionally, seven RCEPI members generously sponsored individual holes.
Rotary Club Estoi Palace International extends its heartfelt thanks to all participants, sponsors, and volunteers for making the 12th annual charity golf tournament a resounding success. The club looks forward to continuing its work supporting the community in the years to come.
