It is with great pleasure that Algarve animal charity, Sterlise Our Strays, can announce that over 600 cats have now been taken out of the reproductive cycle!
Thanks to a $5000 USD grant received from the SPCA International Shelter Support Programme, the funding has allowed 111 pregnant cats to be treated, one was euthanised because of her ill health - she would not have survived either giving birth or the operation - but the other 110 were sterilised. During this treatment, 491 kittens were prevented being born into a life of suffering and misery.
The loyal support of the SPCA-I over the last 5 years has been truly much appreciated, with the very first project being a colony of 35 cats in Nave de Cordeiros, Loule in 2020.
Fundraising for sterilisation efforts like Sterilise Our Strays is the hardest thing to do, it is solely because of institutions like SPCA and DPDSAA who truly understand the need of sterilisation/castration, that we are able to do this!
