Algarve animal sterlisation SOS Algarve Animals, alongside the DPDSAA and SPCA-I, have made a huge impact on the amount of unwanted stray kittens and puppies coming in to the world so far this year.
In March 2025 we sterilised/castrated, under DPDSAA joint venture:
Male cats 93
Female cats 76
Pregnant 16, aborted 69 kittens
Euthanised 1 cat
Male dogs 11
Female dogs 16
Pregnant 1 aborted 4 puppies
EXTRA 1 Female dog was refused as too obese to undergo, needs to lose weight first.
We spent an average of € 46 per cat, and € 75 per dog.
In March we did not meet the set number of animals coming in for sterilisation mainly due to the weather conditions, so we underspent on our 14.494,00 € budget, we spent € 9.536,76 and have to spend this in April!
That's € 5.057,24 added to the April budget!
From 01 January – 31 March 2025 we sterilised, under DPDSAA:
247 male cats
273 female cats
16 pregnant, 69 kittens aborted
1 cat euthanised
This totals 537 cats.
35 male dogs
47 female dogs
1 pregnant, 4 puppies aborted
This totals 83 dogs.
€ 22.049,39 was spent on cats
€ 6.214,52 was spent on dogs
When we include the SPCA-I project achievements of 111 pregnant cats plus 491 kittens, of which 1 cat was euthanised.
648 cats taken out of the reproductive cycle!
And so many more still to do…
