Independent TV company, True North, will be featuring Cheryl and Graham of Figs on the Funcho in the seventh series (in January) of one of the TV companies' most popular brands, which is about Brits who have left their homeland in favour of a new start in Portugal. The series follows the highs and lows of setting up a business in a foreign country.
The couple have a selection of wonderful events scheduled for September, whether you live here in Portugal, or are visiting from abroad. A chance to discover Figs on the Funcho, an idyllic location in the beautiful countryside of Portugal’s Algarve region, with direct views over Barragem do Funcho and the river.
Carob Harvest Celebration & Tapas - 9th September
Join us to celebrate the end of the Carob harvesting season. Tapas and wine will be served on the waterfront deck under the mature carob trees and Cheryl will be sharing her tips on using the end product in your kitchen as it is known to have many health benefits.
Cheryl was born in South Africa and although the carob tree is not indigenous to South Africa, she could always source carob chunks from her local health shop in Johannesburg, to make her favourite carob biscuits with nuts and honey.

Summer Riverside Picnic at Figs on the Funcho - 25 September
Enjoy a picnic, at Figs on the Funcho, on the banks of the Algarve’s Barragem do Funcho.
This unspoilt, uncrowded and tranquil setting is a perfect location to unwind and enjoy a deliciously homecooked vegetarian picnic with your friends. A selection of white, red or rosé wines, from one of the local sun kissed vineyards, will be available for purchase to accompany your picnic.
You can choose to book 6-seater picnic tables that are beautifully set out along the river, all with direct views over the water and countryside and not to mention the gorgeous sunset we are sure to be rewarded with at the end of the day. Two tables will be set in each area i.e. the waterfront deck, the calçada terrace and the pool terrace. You may book your table location in advance.
Your picnic basket will be packed with varied and delicious wholesome vegetarian dishes, full of flavours, textures and combinations to delight your tastebuds.

5-Day Mixed Media Painting Workshop - 19 to 23 September
During this week we have will paint the Benagil cave, one of the most popular tourist attractions in the Algarve, and our art tutor will show us how to apply brusho on our cave painting to make it pop.
We will learn how to draw the the lynx and shading and blending techniques when using pastels. The lynx was a species once considered to be “Critically Endangered” but has moved to a status of “Endangered” as the number of lynxes living in the Portuguese wild has risen to 109, a direct result of the successful lynx programme that is run in the hills near us.
