Movement Screening for Individuals aged 65 and over

Movement Screening for Individuals aged 65 and overHealth problems as a result of a fall can be a major issue for the older generation.  It’s not just injuries caused by the actual fall, but problems occurring as a result of having spent a lot of time on the floor because they just couldn’t get up.  This is a particular problem for people living alone.

Physiotherapist and personal trainer Joel Fernandes, who has organised workshops for APAA animal charity in the past, has developed a screening programme to assess your ability to lie down and get up from the floor, and which will also include an educational component, offering guidance on exercises that promote better functionality and movement longevity.

The screening, which is totally free, will take place at the Pedra Mourinho Recreational Club, Rua das Amendoeiras, Portimão, 8500-792 from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm on Monday, 7 April.

The assessment process is quick and should take no more than 15 minutes.  There is no need to book, but as a number of groups are expected in the afternoon, it is probably best to go in the morning when there will be less people waiting.
