In Nave do Barão, near Salir, the 10th edition of the local Wine Festival sets up under the cork oaks on Saturday, the Ria Formosa throws open its visitor centre at Marim for the Park's 48th-anniversary Open Day and Lagos opens a month-long TRAVESSAS food festival in the old town.

Friday 08 May

  • 39th Algarve Academic Week — final stretch — Penha campus, Faro, evening — Final concert nights of the region's biggest student festival.
  • MOCHILA Festival — Teatro das Figuras and venues across Faro — Day 8 of the children's and youth theatre festival.
MUSIC
  • 9th Jazz in the Wineries: Swing Téte & Paula Padilla — Silves (winery venue), evening — New Orleans-style Dixieland in a working cellar. Day 1 of two.
  • False, True Stories: A Pina Collage — Teatro das Figuras, Faro, evening — National Theatre of São João production, dramaturgy on the poet Manuel António Pina.
  • Todos da Terra — Estojo (MOCHILA) — Faro, evening — Musical-theatre piece with young performers, the festival's youth-creation strand.
OUTDOOR AND TRADITION
  • "Fios de Luta" by the FACA Collective — opening — Lagos — New textile-art exhibition opens tonight. Free entry.
  • Fridays on Ria Formosa — Faro area — Weekly guided nature evening on the lagoon.

  • Ria Formosa Open Day — Quinta de Marim, Olhão, free — 30+ activities for the Park's 48th anniversary.

  • The Days of Jazz '26 — OCENPSIEA "Essay on Deafness" — Faro, evening — Saramago-inspired set between jazz, electronica and hip-hop.

  • Palm Weaving Workshop — Castro Marim, full day, booking required — Learn the dwarf-palm craft of the eastern serra; take home a hand-woven bag.

  • Mercado de Olhão (waterfront) — Olhão, 07:00–13:00 — The Algarve's best fresh-fish market and the fruit-and-vegetable hall beside it. Lunch on the quay after.
  • Artists & Fleas Market — Olhão / Faro — Local artists, vintage, upcycling, food stalls — alternative-market energy all afternoon.

  • MOCHILA Festival — closing day — Faro — Last day of ten. Catch Branco or FOMO if you missed them.
  • E se fosse contigo? (Forum theatre) — Loulé — Audience-participation piece on dating violence and cyberbullying. Important, brave work.
MUSIC
  • The Days of Jazz '26 — Paula Sousa Trio — Faro, evening — Berklee-trained pianist and composer with a Portuguese-flavoured contemporary set.
  • Great Soloists Cycle — Brahms Violin Concerto, Algarve Orchestra — Teatro das Figuras, Faro — Raquel Martínez on solo violin. German Romanticism, world-class.
