The heat has eased a little, with warm nights of 20°C degrees, and no rain forecast. In Olhão, the Seafood Festival is in full swing, with the scent of grilled clams and garlic filling the waterfront.
By the weekend the region hands itself over to folklore and to the sea: dance groups from Slovakia and Nicaragua in Luz de Tavira, the fishing village of Alvor carrying its patroness out onto the water, and accordions in Vila Real de Santo António.
