The Raj Indian restaurant has been a mainstay of the region for well over 20 years. During this time the team have tailored an extensive menu to ensure all visitors can find an incredible dish to suit their palate.
The chefs at the Raj are passionate about their food which is evident when you sample your first dish. Their love of the history of the food has led to a team of waiters with extensive knowledge of the origins of the food they are serving.

Indian Cuisine consists of a wide variety of regional and traditional dishes native to the Indian subcontinent. Given the range of diversity in soil type, climate, culture, ethnic groups and occupations recipes vary substantially from region to region. Indian cuisine is also influenced by religion particularly Hindu and Muslim. The cuisine at the Raj has a Punjab and Balti background.
Balti is a type of Kashmir curry originating amongst the Balti people of Baltistan, Pakistan. The land has long been disputed between India, Pakistan & China which has led to an incredible array of flavours. The Balti cooking pan even resembles the traditional Chinese wok.
Other influences on Indian cuisine include the Mongols from modern day Afghanistan who brought with them exotic spices, dried fruits, and nuts. The Persians contributed the “Dansak” style and the Kashmiris introduced numerous vegetarian dishes.
All this history is at the heart of the food the Raj serves to its clients. As with their predecessors the Chefs use locally sourced ingredients to create an Indian dining experience using the culinary skills passed down through the generations.
The Raj is located in Armação de Péra and has uninterrupted views over the ocean. You may dine inside the air-conditioned restaurant or out on the terrace overlooking the beach. Since reopening after closure during the Covid-19 pandemic, the team are now practising all the “Clean and Safe” guidelines to make sure our guests feel comfortable and welcome. This year, the Raj is also offering a takeaway collection service so you can call ahead and pick up dinner on your way home from the beach or the office.
