Not a good idea when on holiday but it did not stop a 28-year-old British man beating up a GNR officer who had been called to an Albufeira hotel early on Monday morning after reports of a disturbance.
A British couple was arguing with such volume and aggression that the GNR was called out and, while the woman hid in the bathroom, a drunken British tourist laid into the gallant GNR patrol officer who had come to the woman's rescue.
The couple was said to be severely the worse for wear and their argument at 04:00 had got out of control.
The GNR officer was confronted by an aggressive, completely drunk man who decided to take it out on the nearest person.
The woman already had been attacked and, after being coaxed from the khazi, was taken to Faro hospital where she was patched up. The GNR officer also has to be treated for light injuries and a badly damaged ego.
The now hung-over Brit will be up before the court to determine chanrges and see if he is allowed to fly home.
