Algarve - heavy rain forecast from Monday onwards

rainstormThe rain is coming. From tomorrow afternoon, Monday 26th, the Algarve should get some rain which will spread north over the next few days.

On Monday and Tuesday, the rain will be pachy with the heaviest rainfall due on Wednesday, according to the IPMA weather service which shows daytime temperatures in the Algarve at a comfortable 17-18 degrees Centigrade.

The reason is a series of depressions to the north and north-west of the Azores and Madeira, with associated frontal systems," bringing wet weather all of the coming week and a possibility of it continuing into the next.

Due to cold temperatures up north, heavy snow is expected on Tuesday and Wednesday in the Serra da Estrela and anywhere else over 800 metres above sea level.

As for the wind, this will be strong, especially on Wednesday with gusts to 85kmph on high ground in the Algarve and 75 kmph along the coast bringing heavy seas.

The heavy rain is expected to cause local flooding, especially where drainage systems are blocked with months of accumulated detritus.
