Tavira drug dealer had military and police issue ammunition

ammoA 34-year-old man, living in Tavira, was detained by the PSP on suspicion of some mid-range drug trafficking.

When searching his property, thousands of portions of various illegal narcotics were seized, the vast majority was hashish.
Of more concern, the man had ammunition of various calibres at his property.

The PSP Criminal Investigation Brigade has been amassing evidence on the man’s operations for six months and finally pounced last Friday.

Executing a search warrant, the police found hashish, cocaine and some cannabis. Although no firearms were found, dozens of rounds of 9-gauge and 7.62-mm ammunition was seized, normally used by the police and the military, plus various other sizes.

One illegal knife was discovered along with €1,900 in 10, 20 and 50 euro notes.  A variety of packaging material for drugs also was found and confiscated.

According to the police, the detainee carried out a large part of his illicit activity in other towns and villages in the Algarve region, between Tavira and Aljezur, thus seeking to avoid local detection and thwart the police.

The man was soon up before the beak and was allowed home as long as he checked in to the local police station every two weeks.
