Ryanair cabin crews plan Wednesday strike

ryanair13Ryanair’s cabin crew based in Portugal are planning another day of strike action on Wednesday, April 4th, after Easter Sunday’s union action caused the cancellation of 27 flights to and from Portugal.

The airline's management illegally has drafted in crew based in other countries to fill in for Portuguese cabin crews whose members have complaints over maternity and paternity rights and a list of other gripes.

Portugal’s trade unions confederation has weighed into the row, saying that as Ryanair gets huge levels of government support to fly passengers to the country, at the very least it should accord with Portugal’s employment laws.

The union representing cabin crew personnel stated that it is considering taking Ryanair to court over the undue pressure that management has been putting on its staff in other countries to man the Portuguese flights.

The cancellations to date mostly have been to and from Lisbon and Porto airports, with the airline now asking all passengers to check the Ryanair website before journeying to the airport.

Monday's railway workers strike had the desired effect of shutting down the nation's rail system. Another strike has been announced for April 16th at noon for 24-hours with union reps demanding an extra €40-a-month for workers.
