A known drugs trafficker was been pulled over by police on the Portuguese side of the Guadiana International Bridge.
The 36-year-old, travelling with a couple and two children, had 4.3 kilogrammes of hashish hidden in his vehicle.
The man was arrested in the Praça da Fronteira, Castro Marim, for narcotics smuggling after he was pulled over for a routine traffic inspection on the A22, near the old customs post.
The drugs were sufficient to make 8,600 joints.
The man, who already has been in jail in Spain for drug offences, was up before judges in Faro court and will be held in prison until his trial date, all at the expense of the Portuguese taxpayer.
