Some regions of the Iberian Peninsula may reach 45°C next week, 113°F in old money, according to the Spanish weather meteorological service Meteo Iberia.
The Portuguese weather service, IPMA, says it will be hot on the mainland, increasing from Thursday onwards - but does not want to predict a heat wave "so far in advance."
Other Spanish and Portuguese weather services agree with Meteo Iberia and an alert has been issued for Extremadura and Andalusia from Sunday to Thursday 12th July.
Portugal will be affected, with the central and southern interior regions advised to prepare for the first heat wave of the summer.
The IPMA does admit that the weather will 'stablilise' but will not be drawn into a prediction of 40+ degree weather, saying only that the temperature will be “above 30°C” - which leaves things pretty open.
MeteoAlerta and MeteoBadajoz agree that a, "very extreme heat episode is predicted throughout Portugal between Sunday, July 8 and Thursday, July 12th."
MeteoAlerta notes that if, “the final location of this depression is closer to the Azores, the heat will be higher.”
What these weather services do agree on, is that there will be no more rain for ages.
