Of the 59 Hell’s Angels detained by the police, the Public Prosecutor has asked for pre-trial detention for 54 of them.
Citing, "attempted murder, robbery, GBH and criminal association, which in itself is a criminal offence," the Public Prosecutor's Office was firm in its demands at a judicial hearing in Lisbon this morning.
The court has yet to hear the bikers' defence lawyers, so it is not known whether the judge will ensure the gang members are held in jail until trial.
Of the 59 detainees, only five will escape the request for preventive detention.
The detainees are all males, between the ages of 30 and 50, and five of them are foreigners - three Germans, one English and a lone Finn.
The Judicial Police and the Security Intelligence Service had feared violent clashes at the Faro bikers’ festival on July 19th to 22nd so arrests were authorised and carried out last Wednesday in order to avoid possible shootings, fights and an alleged plot to hire a van and run down rival gang members.
