The Public Security Police (PSP) has announced that seven people have been arrested in Lisbon and Faro, on suspicion of drug trafficking. The operation resulted in the seizure of enough drugs for 100,000 sales at street level.
In a statement, the PSP Metropolitan Command reported that five men and two women, aged between 25 and 49, were detained "selling narcotics," namely heroin and cocaine, "supplying the metropolitan area of Lisbon and the southern region of the country."
The seven detainees were taken to the Judicial Court in Lisbon and were jailed pending trial.
According to the PSP, the investigation has been going on for about two years and some of the suspects already had, "criminal records for committing the same crime."
In addition to 61,290 bags of heroin, police also seized enough cocaine for 37,200 lines, 6,240 ecstasy pills, 1,708 grammes of a so far, "undetermined product," more than €13,000 in cash, precision scales and other material used to cut and wrap the drugs.
