Stand-up paddle boarders rescued off Meia Praia

meiapraiaFive, stand-up paddle boarders who set off from Meia Praia beach near Lagos, found themselves in trouble when a brisk wind and strong tide pushed them out to sea, leaving them unable to get back to shore under their own muscle power.

The region’s emergency services, as ever, are on full alert to help those in trouble and a message was received by the Maritime Police in Lagos and the Sagres rescue station that help was needed.

According to a statement from the Maritime Police, the paddle boarders were picked up one-by-one and taken back to the beach. They showed signs of fatigue but needed no medical help.

Each of the five got a lift from a Maritime Policeman on a rather smart JetSki. The paddle boards were dragged behind and one hopes some timely advice on wind and currents was given.
